Course Details

How comprehensive will the Seerah course be?

The entire course (Fall and Spring) will discuss the Prophet Muhammad’s (s.a.w.) noble life of 63 years extensively, including the 40 years before the prophethood and how Allaah protected him from the idolatrous ways of his people; the 13 years of the prophethood in Makkah that brought a revolution in the Qurayshi society; and the 10 years of divinely guided nation building in Madinah that changed the course of history forever.

Is studying the Seerah the best use of my time?

Other than studying the Qur’aan, there is nothing more precious for a Muslim than learning the Seerah. The early generations of Muslims studied the Seerah like they would study the Qur’aan. They understood that they could not understand the Qur’aan, or practice their faith, or draw closer to Allaah without the knowledge of the Seerah. For Muslims, and for humanity at large, the Prophet’s Seerah and Sunnah are the only roadmap for eternal success. Only with the knowledge of the Seerah can we follow the Prophet(s.a.w.) message and convey it to others. In a time of rising Islamophobia and mounting challenges to faith and spirituality, Seerah is a shield against misguidance.

Will the content be from authentic sources?

The Seerah class will draw its information from the Qur’aan, Hadith, and authentic earliest sources, like “Sirat Rasul Allah” by Muhammad ibn Ishaq, as well as from the writings of later and contemporary scholars. A unique feature of this course is that it presents the Prophet’s Seerah not just as ancient history, but how that history provides timeless guidance for humanity.
